This Attribution & Licenses notice describes the main external data sources used in Port Guide & Distances (the “App”) and how they are credited. It should be read together with our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Disclaimer.

1. Purpose of this Notice

1.1. The App uses a combination of:

• public domain materials;
• open data and open source projects;
• licensed datasets;
• proprietary editorial work, structures and algorithms created by Marine Solutions SD Group.

1.2. This document:

• acknowledges the principal third-party sources;
• summarises, at a high level, their licensing or public domain status;
• clarifies that the compilation, structure and additional processing performed in the App are proprietary to Marine Solutions SD Group;
• confirms that external data providers do not endorse the App.

Where there is any conflict between this summary and the original license texts of the respective providers, the original license terms published by those providers prevail.

2. Main External Data Sources

The App incorporates data compiled, processed and/or referenced from the following sources:

2.1. NGA World Port Index

• Source: World Port Index, published by the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
• Status: U.S. Government work — Public Domain (to the extent provided by applicable U.S. law).
• Use in the App:
  • Selected port references and related information may be used as one of multiple inputs in our internal port database.
  • Data may be edited, combined, filtered or supplemented with proprietary content and professional notes.

The App is not sponsored or endorsed by NGA or any U.S. Government agency.

2.2. GEBCO Bathymetric Grid

• Source: GEBCO Bathymetric Grid, produced under the auspices of the IHO–IOC (International Hydrographic Organization and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission).
• Status: Open data product requiring attribution (copyright notice and source acknowledgement as specified by GEBCO).
• Attribution:
  • Bathymetric information used in the App is derived in part from the GEBCO grid.
  • The underlying compilation and visualisation in the App are performed by Marine Solutions SD Group.

Use of GEBCO data in the App does not imply any endorsement by GEBCO, IHO, IOC or affiliated organisations.

2.3. Marine Regions EEZ Boundaries

• Source: Marine Regions Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) boundaries, produced and maintained by VLIZ (Flanders Marine Institute).
• Status: Open data, provided under an open data license as specified by VLIZ/Marine Regions at the time of download/use.
• Use in the App:
  • EEZ boundary data may be used as a reference layer or to assist in contextual visualisations and internal checks.

Marine Regions and VLIZ are not responsible for, and do not endorse, any outputs or conclusions of the App.

2.4. OpenStreetMap / OpenSeaMap

• Source: OpenStreetMap and related maritime mapping from OpenSeaMap.
• Status:
  • © OpenStreetMap contributors.
  • Data is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
• Use in the App:
  • Selected geographic information (e.g., shorelines, port context, certain features) may be derived from OpenStreetMap / OpenSeaMap data.
  • The App uses this data as one of several inputs for internal models, visualisations and routing support.

Important:

• The App itself is not a general-purpose distribution of raw OpenStreetMap or OpenSeaMap data.
• Our internal compilation, structure, and value-added processing are proprietary to Marine Solutions SD Group.
• If you wish to use OpenStreetMap data independently of the App, you should obtain it directly from the OpenStreetMap project and comply with the ODbL 1.0 and the project’s attribution guidelines.

2.5. NOAA ENC (United States)

• Source: NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) and related data products for the United States, produced by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
• Status: As U.S. Government works, these products are generally available in the Public Domain under U.S. law, subject to any specific notices provided by NOAA.
• Use in the App:
  • ENC data may be used as one of several background references in our technical and editorial processes.
  • The App does not provide official ENCs, nor is it an approved or certified ECDIS or chart display.

Use of NOAA materials in the App does not imply endorsement by NOAA, the U.S. Government, or any related agency.

2.6. Other Publicly Available Materials and Proprietary Editorial Adjustments

• The App may incorporate or reference other publicly available materials, including but not limited to:
  • port authority publications;
  • maritime guides;
  • official notices and public documents;
  • other open data sets and public domain works.
• In addition, Marine Solutions SD Group applies:
  • proprietary compilation and selection of data;
  • editorial adjustments and professional maritime notes;
  • internal quality checks and corrections;
  • custom algorithms for distances, schematic routes and related calculations.

This combined, processed and structured dataset constitutes an original database and editorial work owned by Marine Solutions SD Group, even where individual underlying elements may come from open data or public domain sources.

3. No Endorsement by Data Providers

3.1. All third-party data providers (NGA, GEBCO, VLIZ/Marine Regions, OpenStreetMap contributors, NOAA and others) are separate and independent from Marine Solutions SD Group.

3.2. The inclusion of their data or references in the App:

• does not mean that such providers have reviewed, approved or endorsed Port Guide & Distances;
• does not mean that they are responsible for any errors, omissions, interpretations or results produced by the App.

3.3. Any errors, approximations, transformations or editorial decisions in the App are the responsibility of Marine Solutions SD Group alone.

4. User Rights, Restrictions and Reuse

4.1. Your right to use the App and view its content is governed by our Terms of Use.

4.2. Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing:

• you receive a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the App, but not to extract, copy, or redistribute its underlying databases or data in bulk;
• you may not use the App to create a competing database or service by systematically extracting data, except where permitted under applicable law and the relevant open data licenses (e.g., ODbL) and our Terms of Use.

4.3. If you wish to reuse external datasets (such as OpenStreetMap, GEBCO or Marine Regions) outside the App, you must obtain them directly from the original providers and comply with their specific licenses, attribution, and share-alike requirements, where applicable.

5. Trademarks and Names

5.1. All trademarks, product names and company names mentioned in the App or this notice are the property of their respective owners.

5.2. The use of any such names in the App is for identification purposes only and does not imply sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation, unless explicitly stated.

6. Changes to this Attribution & Licenses Notice

6.1. As we update data sources, add new datasets or adjust our usage, we may revise this Attribution & Licenses notice.

6.2. When updated, we will:

• change the Effective date at the top;
• where appropriate, provide additional notice in the App or on our website.

6.3. Continued use of the App after such updates means you acknowledge the updated information on sources and licenses.
