1) Introduction
 

This Privacy Policy explains how Port Guide & Distances (“App”, “we”, “us”) processes personal data under applicable laws (e.g., GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA where relevant). The App is designed to work entirely offline and does not require an account or internet connection for its core features. We do not sell personal data.

Short version: the App itself does not collect analytics, IDs, or location. If you email us, we process only what you send to handle your request.


2) Scope & Applicability
 

This Policy applies to:

  • your use of the App on Android/iOS devices;
  • any direct communications you initiate with us (e.g., email support).
    It does not cover processing by Apple or Google (stores/OS), which act under their own privacy policies.


3) Data the App does not collect
 

Within the App we do not collect, store, or share:

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other PII;
  • GPS or precise/approximate location;
  • Usage analytics, event telemetry, crash analytics;
  • Device identifiers (IP address, advertising ID, device ID);
  • Cookies, web beacons, SDK tracking;
  • Payment card data (purchases are handled by app stores).

The App may keep local-only settings/content (e.g., last used ports, preferences) on your device. These are not transmitted to us.

The application uses a routing database compiled from public, licensed, and proprietary materials. 
These datasets include port references, bathymetric data, and other maritime information that are non-personal 
and do not identify individual users.
 

4) Offline Operation & Third Parties
 

  • The App does not communicate with our servers.
  • No third-party analytics, ads, or cloud SDKs are embedded.
  • Apple App Store/Google Play may process store metadata (e.g., installs, crash diagnostics) under their own policies and roles.
  • Routing data is generated within the App from these sources and proprietary algorithms. 
    The data is stored locally on the device and never transmitted to us.
     


5) In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
 

We offer optional premium features via in-app purchase/subscription. All payments are processed by Apple or Google; we do not access cardholder data. See:

6) When you contact us (Support)
 

If you email us or use any external support channel, we process the personal data you voluntarily provide (e.g., email, name, message content, attachments) only to respond and resolve your request.

  • Purpose: customer support, fraud/abuse prevention.
  • Legal basis (GDPR): legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) and/or performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Retention: we keep correspondence for the time needed to handle your request and to comply with legal obligations (e.g., up to 24 months unless law requires longer/shorter).
  • Recipients: email/IT providers acting as processors (bound by confidentiality and DPAs). We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.


7) Children
 

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The App does not require registration and does not transmit data to us. Parents can uninstall the App at any time.


8) Security
 

Because the App does not transmit personal data to our servers, risks are limited. We still maintain reasonable organizational and technical measures for any support channels (secure email, access controls).


9) International Transfers
 

The App does not transmit user data. If you contact support and a transfer outside the EEA/UK is needed (e.g., our email provider’s location), we will use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) where required by law.


10) Your Rights (where applicable)
 

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., EEA/UK/GDPR, California/CCPA), you may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and to lodge a complaint with your DPA.

11) Do Not Track / Profiling / Automated Decisions
 

We do not track users across apps/sites, do not profile, and do not carry out automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects.
 

12) Data Retention Summary
 

  • App local settings/content: on device only; deleted when you uninstall or clear app data.
  • Support emails: typically up to [24 months] (or as legally required).
  • Purchase metadata: managed by Apple/Google under their policies.


13) Changes to this Policy
 

We may update this Policy. We will post updates here and revise the Effective date. Material changes may be communicated in-app or on our site.
